Inspired by the heartwarming picture book Julián Is a Mermaid, written and illustrated by Jessica Love, five kids at Storyland recently had a roundtable discussion on the topic of whether boys can dress up as mermaids.
Julián Is a Mermaid is one of the picture books we acquired at the 2019 Bologna Children’s Book Fair. Since its inclusion at our Storyland library, it has been widely read and loved by kids.
We talked to Jessica Love, the author and illustrator of this beautiful book, in July. In the episode, shared with us her intentions and inspirations behind this beautiful story of self-expression and belonging.
